Job Summary: Responsible for providing coordination, supervision and administration of the Art Exhibitions, gift shop and staff Associates. Serves as primary support for local member art groups and connects artists in the visual, performing, and written arts.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
• Responsible for researching, scheduling, mounting and managing exhibitions of artists in the Sister Galleries, SunTrust Gallery of the Capt. White House; the Paramount Theater (Burlington) and Mebane Arts & Community Center (Mebane) and other public spaces.
1. Preparation of Contracts
2. Communication with artist prior and during the exhibition
3. Schedule delivery and pickup
4. Maintain files and records of exhibitions and sales
5. Schedule, organize and manage opening receptions for exhibitions
6. Schedule, organize and manage workshops, lectures, or special events to coincide with exhibitions.
7. Develop any additional funding thru sponsorship or activities
8. Develops prospectus for Art curation
9. Keeps accurate records of engagement by the public
• Develops relationships with local, regional and national artists and arts organizations.
• Works with a committee of art reviewers to determine upcoming selections and art curation to engage multiple perspectives
• Facilitates coordination, collaboration and rapport between artists, member groups, individuals and Alamance Arts.
• Connects artists with opportunities for relationship building and is responsible for community relations and art education discussions.
• Assist with the purchase, display, inventory, sales and marketing of the visual arts for the Picasso’s Gift Shop and Galleries.
• Participates in local events such as festivals and musical chairs to represent Alamance Arts.
• Works close with the Marketing and Volunteer Director in the training of volunteers to integrate them into the exhibitions and Gift Shop.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent oral, written communication and organizational skills
• Knowledge of social media outlets and office equipment
• Knowledge of Graphic Design for Artist promotion
• Knowledge of marketing and advertising skills
• Artistic vision for hanging exhibitions, and gift shop display (ADA)
• Ability to create, sustain and foster relationships
• Ability to identify innovative strategies and partnerships
• Ability to properly manage financial resources, develop budgets, and account for all funds.
Desirable Experience and Training:
• Bachelors Degree or alternative experience
• Art gallery sales and management experience
• Knowledge of contemporary art
• Experience working with artists to create a stimulating gallery environment
• Public relations skills
• Writing and editing text for press releases and publications
• Two years work experience in an arts related position
• Two years experience in non-profits
• Experience in developing program ideas to implementation
• Photography experience
Physical Requirements:
• Must have visual acuity to be able to read and write
• Must be able to walk up two flights of stairs.
• Must be able to talk and hear in order to communicate effectively
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds and operate general office equipment
• Must be able to climb a 10 foot ladder
Special Requirements
• Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license and be insurable by the agency’s insurance policy
• Must maintain an insurable status throughout employment
• Must have access to a dependable vehicle on a regular basis.
