Organization: Habitat for Humanity of Alamance County

Position: Director of Development

Reports to: Executive Director

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of progressively

responsible and successful experience in fundraising, marketing, and grant writing.

Requirements/ Skills: Must be goal-driven, results-oriented, and committed to the

organization’s effort to increase its homebuilding capacity. Must understand the mission,

history, values, and goals of Habitat for Humanity and be able to communicate this

information to diverse groups of potential donors, sponsors, and volunteers. Must

demonstrate excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. The ability to

work effectively as a team member with staff and volunteers is essential. Must also possess

the ability to work with consummate gifts with major donors, the ability to manage and sustain

an annual fund for a non-profit organization, and experience in planning and organizing

major fundraising events.

Job Classification: Salary/ 40 hours a week

Hours: Varied, flexible. Some weekends and evenings are required.

Responsibilities: The Director of Development plans, manages, and implements annual

fund-raising activities and assists the Executive Director in general financial management,

Community relations, and strategic planning.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

Capital giving for homebuilding and annual fund

 Develop and implement donor cultivation and solicitation programs.

 Develop and sustain productive relationships with major gift constituencies,

including business and corporate sponsors and individual donors.

 Direct and support the fundraising efforts of the board, volunteers, and staff.

 Develop and implement annual giving programs, including but not limited to

direct mail, matching gifts, monthly giving, and online giving.

 Assist with the management and effective use of Habitat’s database relating to

donors, donor recognition, and fundraising activity.

 Write, update, and evaluate the annual fund development plan.

Grant Management

 Research grant funding opportunities to support annual operating funds and capital

giving for homebuilding needs.

 Maintain an annual calendar of grant activity and deadlines.

 Write and submit funding proposals and prepare reports and other documents

related to grant activity.

Special events

 Direct planning and activities to support the annual signature event with fundraiser

committee volunteers.

 Work with fundraiser committee volunteers to sustain and build signature event

success.

 Access community groups and businesses engaged in charitable giving

opportunities through fundraisers.

 Assist staff with annual meetings and volunteer recognition event planning and

implementation.

Planned Giving

 Work with the Board, and executive director to establish a planned giving program.

 Integrate planned giving program with annual fund donor cultivation and

solicitation efforts.

Additional responsibilities

 Work with the Executive Director to prepare an annual budget for resource

development activities that include fundraising, public relations, and marketing.

 Serve as staff liaison to the public and fundraising committee volunteers.

 Seek out and schedule opportunities to make informational presentations to

churches, businesses, civic organizations, and other community groups.

 Develop relationships with the local non-profit and philanthropic community for

informational exchange and support.

Salary Range: $48k-52k
