On April 4, 2022, the Dun & Bradstreet Universal Numbering System (DUNS) will no longer be used to identify entities doing business with the federal government. It is being replaced by the Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) which will be generated in SAM.gov. All entities need an identifier for federal awards processes, including sub recipients.
After April 4, 2022, entities will go to SAM.gov, not Dun & Bradstreet, to obtain their UEI. April 1 is the last day you can use a DUNS Number to get a UEI or register an entity in SAM.gov. We recommend you save all work in progress in SAM.gov before 8:00 PM (ET) on April 1, 2022, to ensure it will be available on April 4.
SAM.gov will be down for maintenance to complete the transition beginning on April 1 at 8:00 PM (ET) until no later than 9:00 AM (ET) April 4. DUNS Numbers will no longer be displayed in the system or accepted for entity registration. The UEI will be the identifier of record.
Please do not wait until the last minute, to prepare for this transition. This applies to both grant recipients and sub recipients. Grant recipients please contact your sub recipients (if applicable) directly to ensure they get their UEI at SAM.gov. For more information about how to get a Unique Entity ID at SAM.gov, there is help available through this video and these instructions.
