Burlington, NC – CrossRoads Sexual Assault Response and Resource Center will host a Denim Day dinner and fashion show on April 30 at the Elon Community Church. Denim Day is global movement that started in Italy after a rape conviction was overturned because the victim was wearing jeans. This day of action and awareness is an event in which people are encouraged to wear denim to combat victim blaming and educate others about sexual violence.
“We are excited to host our first annual dinner and fashion show event on Denim Day. Hopefully this will not only bring awareness to the fight for victims of sexual assault but also have an entertaining yet relaxing evening,” commented CrossRoads Executive Director Meredith Peffley.
The event will include music by Young Musicians of Alamance, DJ services by DJ Jerry’s Entertainment, a buffet dinner, silent auction, and fashion show. Denim is highly recommended as the attire for the evening.
CrossRoads was started in 1976 when a group of women set out to help one woman fight back when she became a victim of sexual violence. From humble beginnings the organization has grown to include an Adult Sexual Assault Victim Services program, a nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center, and Human Trafficking Victim Service program. Our mission is to eliminate sexual violence, child victimization, human trafficking and their effects through confidential counseling, advocacy, child medical treatment, education and community awareness for adults and children. Last year services were provided to over 1,000 individuals who are survivors of sexual assault, child maltreatment, or human trafficking. All of the services that CrossRoads provides are always free of charge to the victims for as long as services are needed.
