At United Way of Alamance County, we believe a vibrant community relies on a robust nonprofit network and collective community action. Through our Supporting Alamance initiative, we connect individuals with vital resources, empower local nonprofits with funding and capacity-building tools, and mobilize volunteers to create lasting, positive change.

Here is how we are taking action and how you can join us:

Financial Stability & Community Events

  • VITA Tax Time Program: We help individuals and families maximize their refunds through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, offering free, reliable tax preparation to build financial security. Learn more about VITA here.
  • Community Shred Event: Safeguarding your personal information is a vital part of financial wellness. Keep an eye out for our annual Community Shred Event to safely dispose of your sensitive documents.

Empowering Local Nonprofits

We cannot do this work alone. True impact happens when we collaborate with and help to strengthen the incredible organizations already on the ground.

  • Nonprofit Summit: Hosted in partnership with Impact Alamance, this premier annual gathering for local nonprofit leaders offers professional development, networking opportunities, and essential capacity building.
  • Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP): We manage the local allocation of federal funding to support critical food and emergency shelter programs across Alamance County.
  • Community Investment Grants: Through our collective impact fundraising, we provide direct grant support to nonprofits focusing on two critical pillars: Youth Opportunity and Financial Security. Learn more about Community Investment Grants here.

Networking & Community Collaboration

  • Community Council: United Way of Alamance County serves as a central hub, bringing together community leaders, advocates, and service providers. By convening regular network meetings, we share vital community resources and announcements, reduce duplication of efforts, and keep the community informed. Learn more about Community Council here.
  • Community Resource Guide: We maintain a comprehensive resource guide to ensure individuals and agencies can easily find and access local support services.

Engage & Celebrate

We believe in mobilizing the caring power of Alamance County through direct volunteer action and celebration.

  • Quarterly Service Projects: Throughout the year, we organize hands-on volunteer opportunities to tackle urgent, direct needs right here in our neighborhoods. Learn more about volunteerism here.
  • Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards: Celebrating the heart of our community. We proudly coordinate the local nomination and recognition process to honor the exceptional individuals who dedicate their time to lifting up Alamance County. Learn more about the Governor's Volunteer Service Awards here.
