At United Way of Alamance County, we believe that a community cannot thrive if its neighbors are hungry. Through our Feeding Alamance initiative, we are working to build a more food-secure county by connecting families to vital nutrition resources, clearing financial barriers for students, and strengthening our local food network.
Here is how we are taking action and how you can join us.
Fueling Student Success
- Free & Reduced-Cost School Meals: We help educate and guide ABSS families through the process of applying for free or reduced-cost breakfast and lunch programs. Ensuring your family is registered helps secure vital funding for our local schools while keeping your children fueled for success. Complete the School Lunch and School Breakfast Application HERE.
- Clearing School Lunch Debt: School meal debt can place an immense burden on local families and school budgets. We raise dedicated funds to wipe out ABSS school lunch debt, ensuring students can eat without stigma or financial stress.
Strengthening the Local Food Network
We cannot do this work alone. True impact happens when we collaborate with the incredible organizations already on the ground.
- Convening the Alamance County Food Providers Network: United Way serves as a central hub, bringing together local food pantries, hot meal programs, and agricultural partners. By convening this network, we maximize resources, reduce duplication, and ensure food gets to the neighborhoods that need it most. For more information about the Food Providers Network, please email Shereá Burnett at sburnett@uwalamance.org
- Supporting Local Nonprofits: Through our collective impact fundraising, we provide direct support to local, food-focused nonprofits, empowering them to expand their reach and feed more families. Learn more about the Alamance CAN! Emergency Assistance Fund HERE.
Hands-On Community Action
We believe in mobilizing the caring power of Alamance County through direct, community-wide mobilization.
- Hosting Food Drives: Throughout the year, we organize community food drives to keep our local pantries stocked with healthy, non-perishable options.
- Stamp Out Hunger: We proudly partner with the National Association of Letter Carriers for the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, helping to coordinate, collect, and distribute thousands of pounds of food right here in our community.
