Cone Health Recognized for Efforts to Build a Stronger Community
United Way of North Carolina (UWNC) today announced that Cone Health has received its
Excellence in Community Spirit Award. The award recognizes a company that leads the way in
strengthening its community through volunteering, financial investment, and community partnerships.Skip Hislop, vice president, Oncology Services and chair of the Cone Health United Way Campaign, accepted the award on behalf of all Cone Health employees at UWNC’s Spirit of North Carolina Awards Luncheon in Pinehurst.
“Our employees give of their hearts every day and the work of the United Way is an extension of that. It is easy for us to support an organization that shares our values and commitment to the communities we serve,” shared Hislop.
UWNC does not present the award every year, only awarding it to companies that far exceed its Spirit of North Carolina Award standards of excellence. Cone Health stood out from other award winners not only because of their number of volunteer hours and financial donations, but the number of lives they impacted in the three NC counties they serve.
“Cone Health can be held up as an example for others because of their strong philanthropic culture, spirit of giving, and leadership involvement and influence,” said Laura Zink Marx, UWNC president and CEO. “Not only did they score high on all of the Spirit of NC Award standards of excellence; they also impacted thousands of lives in the communities where they operate. Their enthusiasm and commitment are contagious, and we are honored to present them with this award.”
In their application Cone Health reported that they impacted 11,382 lives across three NC counties in 2017. They also invested $368 million in the communities they serve – $351,853 in uncompensated patient care and $1,663,991 in donations.
“Cone Health Network is an excellent example of people who care about all aspects of humanity and doing good for others,” shared Michelle Gethers-Clark, United Way of Greater Greensboro president and CEO.
