Our Work

StoryWalk was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and brought to Alamance County in 2016. Pages from a deconstructed children’s book are placed on stakes along an outdoor path or trail. Not only is it physical activity, but it promotes brain development through serve and return interactions between adult and child.

These back and forth communications are critical to building strong brain architecture early in life. It is important for these interactions to occur in the early years because they will have a lasting effect on all the development and learning that follows. StoryWalk creates an easy and free environment to allow all of this to happen. United Way of Alamance County has presented five stories through Community Council in partnership with Alamance County Public Libraries.
