March 12, 2020 Update:

In order to minimize potential situations that could increase the spread of COVID-19, United Way of Alamance County has altered the VITA program.  Effective immediately, all VITA processing will be done on a drop-off basis only.  A representative with the VITA program will contact individuals currently signed up for a time slot and review the new procedures.  If you have questions, please contact us at 336.438.2000 or khawley@uwalamance.org.

Each year United Way of Alamance County partners with local schools, volunteers, and the IRS to provide the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program for our community.

IRS trained volunteers will prepare your taxes for FREE!  The money you save can be used to build wealth in your household and our community.

Any household making less than $56,000 and older adults can benefit from free tax assistance services.

Before your appointment:

  1. Check local news for weather closings, listed by site/school.
  2. See Publication 3676-B for services provided at VITA sites.

Bring these items to your appointment:

  • Picture ID.
  • Social Security Card or ITIN identification (for everyone on the return).
  • Income documents such as: W2, 1099R, Social Security, interest, dividends, etc.
  • Health Care form 1095A/B/C.
  • Documentation of doctor/dentist payments, mortgage, charitable donations, child care expenses, etc.
  • Copy of last year’s tax return.
