Each year United Way of Alamance County partners with local schools, volunteers, and the IRS to provide the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program for our community.

IRS trained volunteers will prepare your taxes for FREE!  The money you save can be used to build wealth in your household and our community.

Anyone making less than $54,000 and older adults can benefit from free tax assistance services.

If you make under $64,000, another resource is MyFreeTaxes.com.  This United Way program is tax preparation with all of the features and none of the fees along with support for dozens of tax forms, FREE state and federal filling, and live expert advice.

Before your appointment:

  1. Check local news for weather closings, listed by site/school.
  2. See Publication 3676-B for services provided at VITA sites.

Bring these items to your appointment:

  • Picture ID.
  • Social Security Card or ITIN identification (for everyone on the return).
  • Income documents such as: W2, 1099R, Social Security, interest, dividends, etc.
  • Health Care form 1095A/B/C.
  • Documentation of doctor/dentist payments, mortgage, charitable donations, child care expenses, etc.
  • Copy of last year’s tax return.
