Thirty student volunteers at Williams High are supervised by teacher Mary Margaret Harris and certified by the IRS VITA program. All students have successfully completed Accounting 1 and/or Accounting 2 or enrolled in Accounting 2. Students in Accounting 2 Honors classes receive credit toward their Honors Project. Academy of Finance students receive volunteer hours for their participation in the program. Several students plan to pursue careers in Accounting and VITA has been integral in helping them make the decision and plans for career preparedness. This is the fourth year recently that Williams High students have been certified and offered the program to the community. Last year, students prepared more than 100 tax returns and earned $65,000 in state and federal refunds for their clients.
