Important MLK Celebration Events This Weekend

For over 36 years the Martin Luther King Coalition of Alamance County has served Alamance County in many ways.  Most of you have attended the various celebrations we sponsor to honor Dr. King’s work.  The Sunday Celebration has been held in various locations such as Walter Williams High School Auditorium and First Baptist Church on Apple Street.  This year our gracious host for the Sunday Celebration is The Assembly of God, 821 Tucker Street, Burlington, NC.  The service starts at 3PM on 1/14/18.

We also sponsor the Annual Celebration Breakfast at Occasions in Burlington, NC.  On 1/15/18, the breakfast starts at 8:30AM. We sell tickets for the breakfast ($15.00) through our members or call 336-222-8016.  This breakfast features a guest speaker and is well attended by supporters including public officials.

Through our Sunday Celebration we ask for scholarship donations to honor Dr. King.  Our scholarship work has spanned these 36 years. We have assisted over 100 students attending either four-year or community colleges.  In addition, for the last two years we have not only given our regular scholarships, but have given special scholarships for students at Alamance Community College who have special needs and are in vocational certificate programs.

We have further honored Dr. King by having scholarship applicants do essays about his life and work.  These essays have given applicants a new appreciation for his legacy.

We also have an annual Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Martin Luther King Statue at North Park.  This ceremony occurs after the Breakfast and at the end of the NAACP March on Monday, January 15, 2018.

We joyfully invite you to join us at the Annual Sunday Celebration, Sunday, January 14, 2018, at The Assembly of God Church;  The Annual Breakfast Celebration,  Monday, January 15, 2018, at Occasions; and The Wreath Laying Ceremony, Monday, January 15, 2018, at North Park.
