Alamance-Burlington High School DECA Program Seeks Volunteer Adult Judges
Alamance-Burlington Schools Requesting Adult Volunteer Judges for Half Day DECA Competition on Oct. 24
ABSS Marketing teachers are working to host their 10th Annual ABSS DECA Bowl at Country Club Lanes in Burlington, NC on October 24th. Each year students who are involved in DECA compete at this event. The DECA Bowl is a practice for other competitions throughout our 7 county District 4 and the NC State Career Development Conference (held in Greensboro in March) which qualifies students for the National Competition held in California this May.
Students will be judged on two things. Prior to attending the event students have taken a multiple choice test which makes up half their score. On the 24th students will participate in a role play with a community member which counts as the other half of their score. The students will receive a scenario to role play with their judge and have 10 minutes to prepare what they want to say. The student will then meet with the judge for no more than 10 minutes and they will role play the scenario. The judge will be given a copy of the scenario and a rubric to grade the student on a variety of competencies.
We ask the judges to arrive around 8:45 am to read over their scenarios and ask any questions they might have about the scenario. Depending on the number of students who participate judges should be done between 11:30 and 12:00. They are more than welcome to stay for the awards ceremony held at 1:30, but they are free to leave after the students have gone through.
We need 10 judges for this event. Anyone interested in judging or anyone who would like more information should contact Steve Smith, Eastern Alamance High School, at email@example.com or 919-563-5991.
