Capacity Building Opportunities

A key element of our work is addressing the needs of local nonprofits.  We partner to offer opportunities throughout the year to build capacity within the nonprofit sector.

Just Do It! Fundraising Institute
In partnership with Impact Alamance and Elon University, a competitive application process will identify ten Alamance County non-profit organization directors and their board chairs (or most relevant board position) to participate in five training (1/2 day) sessions that will cover:

  • Board’s Role in Fundraising (Sept. 8th 2017, 2:30-4:30pm, Elon University)
  • Organizational Messaging (Oct. 6th 2017, 2:30-4:30pm, Elon University)
  • Planned Giving for the Small Nonprofit (Oct. 27th 2017, 2:30-4:30pm, Elon University)
  • Partnering with Other Organizations/Crafting Your Plan (Dec. 1st 2017, 2:30-4:30pm, Elon University)
  • Individual Presentations and Feedback (Feb. 2nd 2018, 2:30-4:30pm, Elon University)

Attendance at each Friday session is required to receive full benefits of the institute.  Benefits include free training and a financial stipend to execute a fundraising plan, upon successful completion of the program.  Applicants will need an access code in order to apply on the United Way grant software by August 10, 2017.  Applicants will be notified by August 21, 2017.

Leadership Institute
In partnership with Impact Alamance, a competitive application process will identify sixteen non-profit and government directors to participate in a series that includes: 1 full-day training, 7 half-day trainings (4 hours each, morning until lunch), 3 one-hour individual coaching session, as well as a graduation event:

  • Exploring Leadership  (Sept. 14th 2017, 8:15am–5:00pm, The Club Room in the Bowland Center at Twin Lakes)
  • Communicating Like a Leader  (Oct. 26th 2017, 8:30am–1:00pm, Impact Alamance)
  • Getting (the right) Things Done  (Nov. 9th 2017, 8:30am–1:00pm, Impact Alamance)
  • Preventing and Managing Conflict  (Dec. 14th 2017, 8:30am–1:00pm, Impact Alamance)
  • Delegating for Results  (Jan. 11th 2018, 8:30am–1:00pm, Impact Alamance)
  • Navigating Change  (Feb. 8th 2018, 8:30am–1:00pm, Impact Alamance)
  • Making Wise Decisions  (Mar. 22nd 2018, 8:30am–1:00pm, Impact Alamance)
  • Growing Your Influence  (Apr. 12th 2018, 8:30am–1:00pm, Impact Alamance)
  • Building a Team / Graduation of Cohort (May 10th 2018, 8:15am-5:00pm, Sullivan Park at Twin Lakes)

The program provides a solid foundation of leadership essentials through classroom training, individual development plans, self-discovery, practical application, and personal coaching. Attendance at each session is required to receive full benefits of the institute.  Benefits include free training and a financial stipend for additional leadership training, upon successful completion of the program.

  • 2017-2018: Applicants may apply online for the Leadership Institute using the Impact Alamance website by August 11, 2017.  Applicants will be notified by August 18, 2017. After completing the Leadership Institute participants may request the financial stipend by using an access code on the United Way grant software.
  • 2016-2017:  Graduates should select a training or course by September 30, 2017 and request the financial stipend by December 31, 2017 using the instructions and access code on the United Way grant software.
