Community Partner Spotlight: Open Door Clinic

Open Door Clinic was established in 1990 with the goal of providing free healthcare services for the uninsured in Alamance County. The clinic relies heavily on volunteers to donate their time and provide medical services since there is no charge to the patient. Open Door Clinic treats over 500 patients annually through the different clinics they are able to provide.

There is a standard medical clinic Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with most patients seeking assistance with chronic disease. Open Door also has an eye clinic Wednesdays and Thursdays with a volunteer ophthalmologist and optometrist. They also provide orthopedic evaluations once a week but are unable to treat and therefore they refer out to UNC if treatment is needed.

Once a month, there are also endocrinology and urology clinics respectively. Most recently, Open Door has been able to provide mental health evaluations and counseling with the addition of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. With the help of a volunteer volunteer psychiatrist, medication for mental illness can also be prescribed as they have started an integrated mental health program.

There is a LINK transit stop nearby and the clinic is able to give vouchers to clients in need of reliable transportation. Open Door Clinic also works closely with Medication Management Clinic to help patients get their prescriptions for free as well.

We appreciate the work Open Door Clinic does for the community and are proud to partner with this agency!
