Community Partner Spotlight: Elon Academy

Elon Academy is an intensive and rigorous three-phase college access and success program for high school students in Alamance County. The focus of the program is to strengthen academics, leadership development, increase college-going knowledge and culture. There is an emphasis on service and family involvement throughout the three years as well. Family support is crucial to ensuring success in the program.

Phase I is a college access program and takes places over the summer and continues throughout the school year on Saturdays. Students cover SAT prep, college essay assistance, scholarship information and much more. The ages range from rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Phase II is a transitions to college program and aids students beginning college with a three-day retreat in the summer. The goal is the make the transition as smooth as possible. The final phase is the college success program. Academic staff visit students on their respective campuses to introduce them to services and programs available to them. This last phase ensures each student completes their collegiate degree.

We had the honor of visiting during the final week of the summer programs. Each of the three classes were practicing their year-end speeches to be given to family members and staff. Students shared what the program meant to them personally and academically. Elon Academy continues to support many students in Alamance County each year to reach their potential. We are fortunate enough to help this program continue to grow!
