Community Partner Spotlight: CrossRoads
CrossRoads is an assault advocacy center located in Burlington that offers services to both children and adult victims. Since 1976, this organization has been serving victims of sexual assault, human trafficking and abuse in various capacities. Last summer, CrossRoads merged with Alamance for Freedom to begin encompassing human trafficking victims into their organization. CrossRoads is able to offer true wrap-around services to their clients. For example, assistance in finding stable housing or a shelter.
Victims are offered trauma-informed therapy, legal advocacy, forensic interviews, and child medical examinations. We were able to visit CrossRoads and see where these different services take place. CrossRoads works to not re-traumatize victims and all of their spaces are designed with trauma and the client in mind. There are sound machines throughout the rooms to ensure privacy and allow clients to feel comfortable disclosing their stories. All staff and volunteers are highly trained and very professional in their work. CrossRoads is truly a client-centered organization.
There are many partners involved to make the services offered by CrossRoads as comprehensive as possible. Law enforcement plays a critical role in directing victims to CrossRoads or in some cases bringing them right to the agency. There are partnerships with Department of Social Services for referral as well as the school system to promote awareness/education at a young age.
It was exciting to see everything that CrossRoads does for our community and we are proud to support an organization like this one!
